During World War I served in the French Aviation: enlisted July 10, 1917. Aviation Schools: July 19 to December 24, 1917, Avord, Juvisy, Pau. G.D.E. Breveted: October 12, 1917 {Caudron}. at the Front: Escadrille Spad 152, December 23, 1917, to February 12, 1918. Final rank; Sergeant.
Served in U.S. Aviation: Commissioned Second Lieutenant: February 20, 1918. At the Front:94th Fighter "Hat in The Ring" Squadron April 1, to July 31, 1918. With Lt Douglas Campbell scored the first US Aviation Services air victories when each shot down and captured a enemy pilot from JAsta 64w on April 14, 1918 {Uffz. Heinrich Simon shot down by Winslow}. Wounded in combat July 31, 1918 and POW until Armistice
Decorations: Distinguished Service Cross; Croix de Guerre, with Palm. DSC Citation states that while Winslow and two others were on patrol June 6, 1918 he shot down an enemy biplane near Thiaucourt; Also Cited in Order of the Armee {VIII Armee {French} April 16, 1918 while serving with Escadrille 94. {Reference-Northrup and Hall History of the Lafayette Escadrille Volume 1.p.499 {1920} also source of postwar Picture of Winslow} The wound resulted in Winslow losing an arm. Predeceased by wife and child. His brother Paul Stuart Winslow also served in the RAF
